FIRST  STONIE  WORKING  SINCE  GAWLER  CENTRAL  UPGRADE
1st April 2012

Returned to the Barossa Valley this Sunday 1st October 2012 to catch up with the Stonie for it’s first Sunday run to Port Adelaide with 20 fully loaded hoppers behind Loco’s 844,841 since the Gawler Line upgraded a break of train working for just over 6 Months.
When I was arriving into Nuriootpa from Tanunda the train was heading out of Nuriootpa so I miss Nuriootpa and Tanunda before catching up with the train at Rowland Flat, then again between Lyndoch and Sandy Creek, Gawler East, Gawler Railway Station, and Dry Creek Railway Station.

MAYBE  BEGINNING  OF  THE  END
19th January 2013

I captured a few pics of the Stonie in the Barossa Valley from 11am starting at the Nuriootpa Railway Station to the Gawler Central Railway Station formally North Gawler. Last night on the TV news was an item that Penrice Soda is axing 60 jobs at it’s Osborne Plant in May I believe, so after next four months there may not be a regular Stonie from then on if at all.

ANOTHER  LOOK  AT  THE  STONIE
3rd May 2013

Managed one training session and that was out in the Barossa chasing 'The Stonie'. The rumours appear to have re-surfaced again concerning the possible demise of the service, or at the minimum a reduced service of three trains per week. As I am not concerned with any rumours, gossip and speculation which may appear on various rail sites, I will wait until an official announcement is made. If this is the case, this may well have been my last opportunity to photograph the train.

I was hoping for three 830's on the train last Friday as I had seen 704 sitting out the front of The Big Top at Dry Creek South on Thursday. As you will see from the pictures below 704 and 844 were on the train, a local had advised that the three 830's had been running the train for at least a few days prior. The train was followed through until it reached Evanston Gardens near Gawler, called it a day.
