A special Trans Australian Centenary Train consisting of Six Light Engine Diesels and Five Carriages 4 passengers and 1 Guard Van left the Adelaide Parklands Terminal Keswick at 8a.m on route to Port Augusta arriving at 12.30p.m with a Pichi Richi tourist railway Steam Train which it meet from Stirling North to commemorate a Centenary since the first sod of earth was turned at Port Augusta for the beginning of the Trans Australian Railway in Port Augusta 100 years ago on the 14th of September 1912. 

After difficult survey work was completed, a small wheelbarrow carrying a spade was moved to a point on the survey line where Governor General Thomas Denman turned the first sod of earth for the Trans Australian Railway Project connecting Port Augusta and Kalgoorlie a distance of 1,700 kilometres or 1,051 Miles which includes the longest straight stretch of railway track in the world 478 kilometres between Ooldea in SA and Loongana in WA - the project was complete in 1917.

Some details of the Trans Australian Centenary Train below which ran from Keswick to Port Augusta and return on Friday the 14th September 2012 to commemorate a centenary of the Trans Australian Railway. The Train consist of Six Light Engine Diesel and Five Carriages from six private operators which operates in South Australia.
Five Private operators of the Light Engines and One Operator of the Passenger Carriages. The Five Private Operators on the Six Light Engine are Pacific National, QR, SCT Logistics, CFCLA, and Genesee & Wyoming Australia with Pacific National having Two Light Engines of the Six -9305 & NR 18 front and back Engines and Great South Rail which operates the Passenger Carriages . The trip to Port Augusta the front engine was PN 9305 followed by QR 6022 – SCT CSR 004 – CFCLA G512 Peter Pan – GWA GWU 006 - PN NR 18. 
On the return trip it was the opposite headed by NR 18.
