KESWICK  BECOMES  WAYVILLE
Now officially called,
"ADELAIDE  SHOWGROUND"

Decommissioning Keswick Station

Hidden from public view, Keswick Station does not have wheelchair access, with only stairs to the road level. The station provides very basic amenities and is in need of an upgrade. Keswick Station has low levels of patronage.
The new site at Wayville provides significantly enhanced opportunities not available at the current Keswick site.
Keswick Station will be decommissioned as the Wayville Station is constructed.

UPDATE
 24th March 2013

The construction of the new Wayville Railway Station has commenced adjacent the Wayville Showground, eliminating the need of a temporary station for the Royal Adelaide Show each year. The new station has been designed for the requirement of showground patrons - local businesses and future residents. The station will be fitted with elevators and stairs to provide access from both sides of the station. The establishment of the new Wayville Railway Station will see the removal of the existing Keswick Railway Station north of the Keswick bridge with the new station 500 metres to the south, with construction time spanning six months starting late February 2013 with plans to be operational in September 2013, in time for the Royal Adelaide Show.

UPDATE

Six days before the start on the Royal Adelaide Show it's hard to see if the platform on the showground side of the station will be ready in time for the opening day of the show. Very little progress has happened in the last 2 weeks it seems on the new Wayville RWS, I walked to the Basketball SA Stadium carpark to the side of the station you can see in picture to get a side on view on the new station - the shared path along side of the show grounds for Leader St to Anzac Hwy is still closed off to the public.

UPDATE
 10th November 2013

New roofing has been placed onto the platform shelter now, with the pedestrian bridges being placed to each side of the rail corridor to assemble to the centre lift shaft. Note the old pedestrian underpass under the Keswick bridge is closed with no access now, I think for safety issues on the electrification of the Seaford Line which gave access between the former Keswick Railway Station and the new Wayville RWS.

The day after the opening of the new Wayville RWS which is named "Adelaide Showground Station" is near completion with a few construction workers finishing off some final touch's. Safety Flags rope off the southern entrance of the station along the shared cycle/pedestrian path showground side, with the main entrances either side of the station opened with a pedestrian ramp leading to each side of the pedestrian bridge with the elevator working along with stairs for ascent to the island platform.
