Milang was once acknowledged as the largest inland port in South Australia. In its peak days, a constant stream of paddle steamers docked at Milang’s wharves to unload their cargoes on to Adelaide-bound bullock drays. The pace of trade stepped up a gear or two with the coming of the railway. It was the 1878 railway line to the government-created port of Morgan upstream, however, that cut short Milang’s heyday.
